DEWALT DCS331B 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion Jig Saw (Tool Only)

Does exactly what it says it does. Only issues I have with it are: 1) limited sizes: The first thing I needed to drill turned out to be 5/32″ which isn’t on this… so I used this to drill 1/8″ pilot holes and then re-drilled the needed ones following. 2) It’s tall for small bits. The standard bits for the small diameters aren’t very long, so those 1/8″ pilot holes didn’t make it all the way through a 3/4″ board after the block took up most of the (small) length of the bit. A longer bit could have resolved as well. It’s a good idea, and a good product, I just wish there were more holes or lower height.

OK, this is the first time I’ve used something like this so I’m not sure how it compares to other tools like it.

I don’t have a drill press and don’t need one often enough to justify buying one, which probably puts me in the same category as you, right? I needed to drill some holes for some dowels (1/2″) that would stick straight up from a horizontal 1×6. Using this tool, they do stick up, just not really straight like I’d hoped.

When you put the 1/2″ drill bit into the 1/2″ hole of the drill block, there’s a little play in there. Probably has to be some, or the bit would bind up and cause more adventure than you’d like. Anyway, I understand the problem, but it means that the drill will not go into the wood at a very precise perpendicular angle. Also, of the four holes I drilled, two were a nice tight fit with a 1/2″ dowel. The other two, not so much. If you can live with that, it’s probably an OK tool for you.

I found out quickly that if you need a clean hole in the wood, you need to clamp this thing securely to whatever you’re drilling. Otherwise, you’ll get splintering where the bit enters the wood. And I was using a brand new, sharp, Dewalt titanium bit.

For around $8, I’d say it’s worth it. Just practice first on a sacrificial board for the first few holes.

This DeWalt 20V jigsaw does not disappoint. Most woodworkers already know the Bosch Jigsaw 1587AVS is the gold standard for jigsaws, there is a newer version out now but I really want a cordless. Im already locked into the DeWalt 20v line so after reading reviews & watching some videos I ordered this, it has the same power as my plug in and seems to be just as good (close enough) Im happy so far. The blade has not come out like other reviewers have stated. I especially like the fact its cordless. I am a finish carpenter, I install millwork & cabinets for 20 years now and really appreciate good tools, I figure being cordless could make my day a little more exciting because lets face it, theres nothing fun about waking up at 3 am to drive into the city and have to bust ass all day long, it kinda sucks so maybe this saw will make my day a little more interesting & help me to go home faster being that its cordless, the less work I have to do the quicker I can go home, YEAH… I will edit this as time goes on.
