Sure, the box says your Milwaukee Drill has more torque than the Dewalt; BUT IS IT TRUE? I shoestring an industrial instrument into a precision torque meter. Like the Vids, want to help me? I put this in a contest on instructables. PLEASE CLICK THIS LINK AND VOTE. The prizes will make good teardown/giveaway vids! http://www.instructables.com/id/High-Tech-Low-Buck-Digital-Torque-Meter

I have tested AvE's setup and have found that the loadcell is ~linear when measuring with a torque wrench. i found that the cell is very sensitive of the direction the torque wrench is pointing. My guess is that some of the force applied to the wrench, bends the loadcell
While testing 2 positions 90 degrees apart, i was measuring 5Nm at "0 degrees" and 10 nm at "90 degrees". I doubled the torque to 10Nm and the results where the same (10 at 0, and 20 at 90)
the loadcell bends alot easier along its intended direction
If the loadcell could be turned in a lathe at the end where the torque wrench is applied, and a bearing + bearing holder stabilised all unwanted motion, this setup could work.
Then why do you call them milfukee's and Milsukees?
I'm not sure the physics is correct in this one.
So does that mean the Millsuckee is not so bad after all? I'm looking for a new cordless drill.
Hi, I'm watching your video, and I wonder if you could share me Arduino program to get an idea of functioning. Thank you .
mind…is…boggled!! you sir are brilliant. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if you are approched by big name brand pocket thieves to head their r&d department's. Demand toooop coinage!!! You sir are worth it. Thank you.
are there also cylindrical load cells? (cheap ones that is)
I have a feeling the answer to this question is "Because where is the fun in that?" but why not just torque the fastener down with the drill, and then use the torque wrench to see where it clicks to identify the torque value?
could that be used to weigh shit too? yep looks like i should have watched it all before asking that
Do you have any videos on how to build a dc motor controller for a larger hp motor?
There's a lot marginal erros in this setup, invensting a couple more hours and dollars and you'd have something credible… though for a quick and dirty setup it's more then good enough, comparing a $4000 tool to a 30 dollar setup allows you to have at least a good amount of marine for errors. judging by the readinds I'd guess you're only a couple of tens of % off.
Seting it up so that the drill pulls down on the bar would give you more accurate readings.
check your calibration weight because a lot of dumbells are not exact at all or even close
aye strap that mofo on a dyno
I found one you've deformed the load cell once, it's fucked. recalibrating it won't help.
To the suggestions box 😉
You could edit the arduino program so it would "store/remember" something like the last 5 high values.
also skipping the scroll spam, instead only showing highest on a single line, and like a GUI 😉 have the last 5 values listet.
Only replaced if a new higher value occours..
I hated the brushed M18 drills just because they shutoff when loaded. Now the brush less fuel drills are another story they just keep spinning you in circles.
