The DEWALT DCP580B 20V MAX* Brushless Planer features a brushless motor which provides power and runtime of 32,000 cuts per minute and can achieve a fast removal rate with 5/64″ (2 mm approximately) maximum depth of cut. This tool offers a calibrated depth adjustment knob to 5/64″ (2 mm approximately). The precision-machined front and back aluminum shoes ensure parallelism of cut and the kickstand allows user to rest the planer on work surface without gouging the material. A precision machined groove in the front shoe allows for edge chamfering.     I am very Happy with this unit after day one. I placed a DCB203 20V Max 2.0AH Compact XR Li-Ion Battery Pack (Smallest they make) into the Fan, turned it on low at 10:45am. At 10:28 PM then unit is still running. On Low speed, you can not even hear the unit running. Will be running the unit on Medium speed this weekend, same battery.

    Outstanding cordless version of the original,”I have one cord left to get rid of, the mini router”, being nearly all cordless makes you so much more efficient. The depth of cutting is less than the corded, but it is all you really need, the time to take an extra swipe or two is alot less than setting up a cord. It is lighter than the corded version that makes it more agile and able to get a better feel of what you are doing. The guide is beefy and solid, and easy to adjust. I would have given it 5 stars, but if DeWalt wants that 5th star, it would be made in the USA.
    Cons;
    It still has the footrest on the rear like the original, on the original it got in the way of a smooth cut and I just broke it off with a pair of pliers. The reason the foot was there was the original took a good 20 seconds for the wheel to stop spinning. This one has an electric brake on the blades that stops the wheel in about 1 1/2 seconds, hence not much more need for the foot. The only other judgement would be for the want of LED lights on the tool, 2 pointing front, 2 pointing rear for gloomy November evenings in Pennsylvania.

    In Closing
    I will use this tool a lot more now that I can just reach over grab and go with power.

    Love this fan so far. Will update as I use it more. The fan pivots back more than 90° as you may see from my picture. I was concerned the bigger flexvolt battery wouldn’t fit in it but it does with ease. I’m currently conducting a run till dead test to see how long it will run at high-speed with Dewalt’s strongest battery the flex volt 9.0 AH battery. Seems pretty well-made, however, I’m going to hang on to the box to carry it in just to protect it. I hope the DeWALT comes out with a carrying case for this. The hooks pull out from the base allowing you to hang the fan on the job site, which is a nice touch. As many have already posted you can plug it in but not while you have a battery in the battery socket. To use AC will need an extension cord with a female plug on one end just as the DeWALT power pack inverter uses. The description on Amazon says it includes a battery….well it does not. You can use any of the DewALT 20 V or 20/60 flex volt batteries. I paid $85 but it just dropped to $79…. so what are you waiting for?

    Well Its run for 3 hours and the LEDs on the battery still show a full charge!

    Now at over 16 hours of run time with battery now down to one led still going strong ….

    Ok it ran over 17 hours on one charge on high with DeWALTs best battery!!
